Skilled Employer Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa Subclass 494:

This visa has two streams:

• Employer Sponsored Stream
• Labour Agreement Stream

Eligibility for Employer Sponsored Stream:

You must:

• Be less than 45 years of age at the time of visa application unless you are an exempt person such as an academic, medical practitioner, scientist, researcher or you hold Special visa category subclass 444 or New Zealand Citizen Family Relationship Visa subclass 461
• Be nominated by an employer whose business is lawfully operating in Australia and located in a designated regional area of Australia. The employer needs to be approved standard business sponsor or at least has lodged the application for standard business sponsorship
• Have relevant skills and qualifications to perform the tasks of the nominated occupation 
• Positive skill assessment in the nominated occupation unless you are exempted such as university lecturer or holder of special visa category subclass 444
• Have minimum of three years employment experience preferably in the last five years 
• Have competent level of English unless you are an exempt person 
• Meet health and character requirements 
• If in Australia, you must not have visa cancelled or refused 

Visa Stay: 

5 years

Permanent visa subclass 191, after living and working for 3 years for the nominator employer

Labour Agreement Stream:

This stream is only for skilled workers nominated by employers who have labour agreement in place with the Australian Government.
